YGG has established a partnership with Thirdverse, a game studio that specializes in multiplayer VR and web3 titles, with two studios in Japan and the United States.

YGG participated in Thirdverse’s recent $15M funding round by purchasing a simple agreement for future equity (SAFE). This partnership will let members immerse themselves in a competitive setting inside the fantasy world of Captain Tsubasa where they can coordinate on various game strategies.

“I am happy to be able to partner with YGG, led by Gabby Dizon, a pioneer in the web3 space, to support the launch of Captain Tsubasa: Rivals, the first blockchain game from our game studio,” said Hironao Kunimitsu, founder and CEO at Thirdverse. “With the help of YGG, we will strive for mass adoption of web3 technologies by leveraging mainstream Japanese IP in blockchain games,” he added.

Launching on January 12, 2023, the strategic Football Battle game Captain Tsubasa: Rivals is Thirdverse’s web3 title that reimagines characters from Yoichi Takahashi’s original “Captain Tsubasa” manga. The story of “Captain Tsubasa” revolves around the main character, Tsubasa Ozora, and his rivals, who dream of becoming professional football players. Today, the manga has sold more than 70 million copies in Japan and has been translated into more than 20 languages, becoming a major football icon worldwide.

The theme of the game from Thirdverse is to develop and strengthen your unique NFT character while competing for items against your opponents.

A “Player” NFT or character card is required to play Rival Mode, whereas for PvP mode, three such character cards are required. Characters come in the form of generative NFTs, with 3D movies and generative background music that are played inside the game.

Captain Tsubasa: Rivals has two game modes for players to enjoy. In each game mode, players can win different items and points to collect Rival Pieces, complete Rival Cards, and other rewards.

Rival Mode

  • This game mode recreates the original Captain Tsubasa story and lets players experience the PvE mode.
  • Players earn rewards in the form of $TSUBASAUT and win items that can be used in the game.

PvP Mode

  • Users can form teams out of multiple-player NFTs and play matches against other users.
  • Each of the six Rival Cards is split into Rival Pieces, which can also reward new NFTs once collected.
  • Players can use the items and $TSUBASAUT to strengthen their NFTs, acquire new NFTs, and earn rewards by using, buying or selling them.

TSUBASAUT is the in-game utility token that is used during gameplay. It can be earned through gameplay rewards or obtained via an exchange.

TSUBASAGT is the governance token that will be available for in-game activities, fan communication, and more. Details will be announced in the future.

As the game is built on the Polygon network, the MATIC token will be used to purchase items and NFTs in the Marketplace and in-game shop.

The PvP mode of Captain Tsubasa: Rivals will be made available soon after the launch of its PvE mode. The game is also planning to conduct an initial exchange offering (IEO) for its TSUBASAGT token in Q1 2023.

The Thirdverse team is founded by a group of veterans working in the entertainment, gaming, and AR/VR industry.
